On Thursday, May 16th, TAG will be hosting “Family Engagement Night,” from 4:30pm-7:30pm. Families are invited to TAG to participate in activities that will be taking place in many different classrooms. In addition, we will be presenting the 7th and 8th Grade Spring Concert on that evening. Please note that this event is designed to promote family engagement. If you wish to discuss your child’s progress with their teacher, please contact them to schedule an appointment.

Apply for G&T Test by November 9th!
To apply for the New York City Department of Education’s Gifted & Talented Program, your child must be a current NYC resident entering kindergarten through third grade in September 2019. You must apply for your child to take the G&T test.
Schedule your child’s test by the November 9 deadline one of two ways:
- Online at MySchools.nyc in English, Spanish, Chinese, Bengali, Russian, Arabic, Urdu, Haitian Creole, Korean, or French:
- In person at a Family Welcome Center—find locations and hours here
When and where your child takes the G&T test depends on their current grade level and whether they attend a public school.
- Current public school students in grades K-2 will take the test during a regular school day in January—get your child’s testing date from their school.
- Current pre-K, charter school, and non-public school students will take the test on a weekend date—choose a test date and location when you schedule the test.

Updated! Parent/Teacher Conferences: Fifth – Eighth Grade Procedures
Parent/Teacher Conferences will be on Thursday, March 15th. This will be a half day of school for all students, with dismissal at 11:05am. Afternoon conferences will be held from 12:00pm and end at 3:00pm. Evening conferences will begin at 5:30pm and end at 7:30pm.
Fifth – Eighth Grade Procedures
All Fifth through Eighth Grade conferences, as well as conferences for all cluster teachers will be on a “first come, first served,” basis.
Fifth and Sixth Grade conferences will be held in the gymnasium.
Seventh and Eighth Grade Conferences will be held in the library.
In addition to the Thursday, March 15th date, teachers will be hosting after-school conferences, on Tuesday, March 20th and Tuesday, March 27th. Please contact your child’s teacher to schedule an appointment for these dates/times.
Deadline for Parent/Teacher Conferences
Dear TAG Families,
All conferences for Kindergarten through Fourth Grade must be scheduled via the online appointment booking calendar. Please note that the deadline to sign up for an appointment for Parent/Teacher Conferences is tomorrow, Tuesday, March 13th, at 9:00pm. If you have not scheduled your appointment by this time, the calendar will be locked and no further appointments may be scheduled online. If you do not schedule an appointment, your child’s teacher will reach out to you to schedule an appointment.

2017 Manhattan Spelling Bee
Yesterday, approximately 70 students representing 25 schools participated in the 2017 Manhattan Spelling Bee at PS 59 – Beekman Hill International. The top eleven spellers will go on to participate in the Citywide Spelling Bee, hosted by the Daily News, will be held at the New York Public Library in March.
Congratulations to our TAG students, Cruz Warshaw and Tasnim Sumaita for placing within the top twelve places.
“The Overlap of Giftedness and Social Emotional Functioning”
On November 30th, our School Psychologist, Dr. Marc Gerber was invited to present during Coffee and Tea with Ms. C. The workshop was titled, “The Overlap of Giftedness and Social Emotional Functioning”. Parents learned of the available social and emotional support systems for TAG students including long-term and short-term interventions.

TAG’s 6th Grade Admissions Information
The following are the steps involved for applying to TAG for 6th grade for the 2023-2024 school year.
- List TAG (04M012) as one of your choices on the Middle School Application
- The New York City Department of Middle School Admissions will evaluate all applications
- The New York City Department of Middle School Admissions will send out offer letters for those being accepted
- Other qualified students will be placed on a waitlist
- Offers from the waitlist will be made if seats are available, in sequential order, as per the waitlist
